Prospect Blueprint Scouting Summary
Team leader with a great work ethic who hates losing and sets an example on the diamond day in and day out. Considers striking out “losing”. With 2 years of D1 baseball experience, he has improved each season. Japanese style baseball player (he’s half Japanese).
Led all California Juco catchers with 57% CS rate in 2023 with just 3 passed balls. Recruited by 15 colleges post Juco and received recruiting assistance from NY Mets west coast scout to keep him in his area. D-Backs scout also requested his catching reel.
Excellent defensive Player who can play anywhere on the field. Trained in the infield with Omar Vizquel and at catcher with Rick Dempsey. Remarkable athleticism in the infield, and behind the dish with a pop time that can vary from 1.78-2.00 depending on the pitch. Phenomenal glove with a quick release, and accurate from all release points.
Had half of his errors in ‘25 in 3 games (3 in a 2-day period in a cold steady downpour at 3rd base). Normally, he’s extremely reliable and capable of numerous highlight reel plays over a season.
As a catcher, runners advance on him only if the pitch is well off target or the pitcher is slow to the plate which was very common with VCU in ‘25. Advanced IQ on the field. Extremely agile and smooth with a strong arm. Good range, and a great utility player who can play anywhere.
Observation: in 2 years of D1 baseball: He gets very hot in the second half of the season going .362 the last 1/3rd of ‘24 and .359 last 1/2 of ‘25.
Has some power on inside pitches and pulls most of his homeruns. Has supplied a good volume of extra-base hits (27%). He is a table setter and has QABs as a rule rather than an exception. What he can’t hit he fouls off intentionally - a lost art. He rarely swung and missed just 16 times in 2025. In 2024 he was ranked #3 highest contact rate for a fastball in D1 baseball.
He hits from a low concave stance with his hands back at the top of the strike zone, and is a very difficult out who can hit for a high average with a Tony Gwynn-influenced approach in spurts.
He batted .333 vs ranked opponents.
Great bunter.
